Detaching. If your doll’s head is secured to the cloth torso with a neck string, simply untie the string at the back of the neck, loosen the opening, and the head will pop right off. It is helpful to use tweezers or pliers to grasp the strings at the knot to loosen it.
If your doll’s head is attached to the cloth torso with a hidden zip tie, you’ll need to clip one or two stitches at the back of the neck to find the zip tie. Using a seam ripper or a pair of thin sharply pointed scissors is helpful. You only want to clip the stitches just below the back of the doll’s vinyl neck. Be careful not to clip through the fabric of the torso or the stitches that go all the way around the doll’s neck. Once you can access the zip tie, snip it and the doll’s head will pull right off. Then remove the zip tie and discard it.
Reattaching. If your doll’s head was tied on originally, all you will need to do is position the doll’s head inside the opening of the torso and re-tie the strings around it. Make sure to pull very hard so that there are no gaps between the head and torso fabric. Tie securely with 2-3 firm knots.
If your doll’s head was secured with a zip tie, make sure the zip tie is removed, then rethread the loop in the neck fabric with string or a new zip tie. If you are using string, you can attach one end to a safety pin or wrap it through some floral wire to have a more solid object to thread it through the loop with. Once the torso is restrung, proceed to the directions above.
